Did you know we use GPS-powered collars, like the ones you might’ve seen on Clarkson’s Farm, to manage livestock across our sites without traditional fencing.

So how does it work? Each animal wears a GPS-connected collar, which allows us to set a virtual fence within their grazing area. If they approach the boundary, a series of audio cues lets them know to stay within the designated zone. On the rare occasion they ignore these warnings, the collar delivers a gentle electric pulse, measuring just 2% of the charge of a standard electric fence, a mild reminder rather than a strong shock.

This system has enormous benefits. It helps us guide grazing to where it’s most needed, keep animals away from sensitive habitats that could be damaged by overgrazing or poaching, and reduce conflict with other site users by steering livestock away from footpaths.

And yes, it also helps us track our animals down when they decide to visit the local pub! We're pleased to report, they were safely retrieved, and we followed up with a celebratory pint in the same spot later that evening.

We’re proud to be using innovative, animal-conscious tech to care for both our landscapes and our livestock.
