Free Beginner's Bird Walk at Betteshanger Country Park

Event Date: 08/10/2026 10:00 - 12:00

Free Event

Join Ranger Helena from White Cliffs Countryside Partnership and Ranger Sam from Bird Wise East Kent on a gentle autumn walk around Betteshanger Country Park.

During a gentle walk around the country park, we will be looking out for birds and other wildlife. The rangers will be on hand to help with identification tips and tricks, as well as share fascinating facts about the creatures that we find. We are in the midst of autumn bird migration, so we never know what might turn up!
Please bring along binoculars if you have them; we will have a limited number of pairs to borrow for the duration of the walk.

This event is suitable for the whole family, and so if you have a young budding wildlife enthusiast in the family, or if you are only starting to get into wildlife in your adult years, come along! All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

This event is free to attend, but booking is essential.
Please remember to cancel if you can no longer attend, so other people might be able to come along.
The walk will last approximately 2 hours.

Meeting point:
Betteshanger Park, Sandwich Road, Deal, CT14 0BF.

Event Location - Sandwich Bay

Sandwich Bay is a long sweeping bay, which stretches from the north of Deal up to the mouth of the River Stour. The River Stour separates Sandwich Bay from Pegwell Bay. The Bay is characterised by a variety of important habitats such as shingle and sand beach, sand dunes, mudflats, and saltmarsh. The Bay backs onto grassland, wetland and scrub, including farmland and golf courses.

Sandwich Bay is internationally important for wildlife and is designated a National Nature Reserve, Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation. Find out more about the work we’re doing to raise awareness about the special wildlife and to reduce disturbance.
