Guided Walk: Marvellous Meadows

In recognition of National Meadows Day join us on a circular walk from Dover Priory station up to Whinless Down, around High Meadow Local Nature Reserve and then back to the station. While we walk we’ll look at all the birds, butterflies and flowers along the way, as well as learning about some of the sites histories (people and geological).


Distance: Approximately 4 miles

Duration: 3.5 hours

Please wear sturdy footwear and bring water/snacks as you feel you’ll need. As it’s July it may be quite hot so please remember suncream/hats/sunglasses/etc.

Event Location - High Meadow

High Meadow Local Nature Reserve is an area of sloping chalk grassland and scrub grazed by Exmoor ponies, which rises above Buckland hospital in Dover. From the eastern end there are views of Dover Castle, the English Channel and the French coast.

The site is easily accessible on foot from Dover town centre and is only a ten-minute walk from Dover Priory train station. The site is managed on behalf of Dover Town Council.

Discover a permanent orienteering course featuring 20 control points at High Meadow. This course connects with Whinless Down, offering an extended challenge for outdoor enthusiasts. Maps are available here.
