Wheat Weaving at Samphire Hoe

Event Date: 08/03/2026 13:00 - 16:30

Join the Wheat Weaver Carol Partridge to learn about one of our vanishing country crafts. Symbolic of fertility and good fortune, corn dollies were once a common sight particularly at harvest time. You will be introduced to a range of designs from around the British Isles (and further afield). Hear stories associated with them and briefly discuss the materials and techniques used. Most of the workshop, however, will be spent making a selection of examples for you to take home!

Meeting Point: Education Shelter at Samphire Hoe Country Park, Samphire Rd, Dover CT17 9FL.

Refreshments: Hot drinks will be provided.

Parking: Included in the cost of the ticket, you do not need to pay via the machine/Ringo. Please let the Ranger know of your car registration on arrival. Disabled parking spaces are available.

Facilities: Toilets and café at Samphire Hoe Country Park.

Event Location - Samphire Hoe

Samphire Hoe Country Park was created at the foot of Shakespeare Cliff between Folkestone and Dover using chalk marl dug to create the Channel Tunnel. Opened in 1997 as a nature reserve and country park it is now a haven for wildlife and a centre for outdoor learning and events.

Habitats on site include chalk grassland, sea buckthorn scrub, ponds, rockpools and a pebble beach. Paths and a cycle route allow you to explore the site and a tea kiosk and indoor exhibition room with seating can be found near the car park.

The North Downs Way runs along the cliff top and links the site to Folkestone Warren Local Nature Reserve to the west.

We manage Samphire Hoe on behalf of Eurotunnel. For more information visit the Samphire Hoe website.
