Our Finest Dour

Our Finest Dour is a project which aims to raise awareness of the River Dour in Dover. The Dour contains rare chalk stream habitat and is home to many exciting species such as brown trout, kingfisher and grey wagtail.

The three, come five year project was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and ran  November 2018 - November 2023. Through establishing sustainable initiatives, the project aimed to raise awareness of the rare chalk River Dour.

So far, the project has set up riverfly monitoring on the Dour, provided training for volunteers, funded river cleans, delivered free activities to the public, engaged local schools and created a learning space - The River Dour Centre - in the heart of Dover.

Thank you to our partners at Dover District Council, Dover Town Council, Environment Agency, Dover Big Local, Southern Water and Affinity Water who have  contributed to this project.  To find out more or get involved please email riverdour@dover.gov.uk
