    Arguably our favourite time of the year here at WCCP & RMCP is Summer Festival: a whole month filled with meaningful moments in nature, shared with the local community.

    This year, we stepped up our game and hosted 20 different events across 10 of our sites, with some specific aims in mind:

    • To encourage the local community to engage with nature on their doorstep.
    • To help local people fall in love with the wild spaces found just around the corner.

    Well... over 1,000 of you showed up to join us in celebrating our local wildlife!

    Some highlights for us included spotting a Tawny Owl during our family bat walk, catching and observing countless Clouded Yellow butterflies at a variety of events, and discovering many Bullhead fish during our river dipping sessions. We even found the biggest cased caddis larva we have seen to date!

    We also revamped two bug hotels and boosted wildflower numbers by making seed balls to scatter across our sites. No leaf was left unturned in the hunt for bugs, and some of you even braved the dark to join a UV walk at Folkestone Downs.

    We've made some incredible memories this summer, and we hope you did too.

    We want to share our gratitude not only with everyone who attended our events, but also with those who helped spread the word about White Cliffs and Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership. Another thanks goes out to our partners and our volunteers for their continued support. The community is at the heart of everything we do, and hearing such positive feedback from the people who matter most has been truly incredible.

    Beautiful Butterflies – ‘We found an incredible amount of amazing butterflies. The painted lady was definitely a highlight!’

    Birds of the White Cliffs – ‘Whole event was brilliant, learned a lot.’

    Family Bat walk – ‘Education in the stables was really interesting, the game was fun and hilarious and the bats were amazing! – and we saw an owl!’

    Bug Hunt & Homes New Romney – ‘Lewis was absolutely brilliant at building a big hotel with my son. We spent well over 2 hours collecting the things we needed and then creating the hotel. We loved it and didn’t want to leave! Thanks so much’
